Rivers on Skin

Aiden looked up from the glistening water of Lake Powell to the gun metal gray of the clouds blanketing the sky. He prayed for rain. He longed to feel the droplets on his skin, to feel the sensation of water running in streams over his body. Would the heavens open up and grant him his wish or would he have to wait even longer. It felt like years had passed since he felt the cleansing touch of rain.

Wetness kissed his hand, then his shoulder, then his cheek. Aiden closed his eyes and lifted his head toward the sky to feel the soft kiss of rain. His tense muscles began to relax. He pulled his shirt off in a single swift movement, and lowered his back to the red tinted rock. The gentle wind chilled his wet exposed skin causing goosebumps to blossom.

Soft echoes of footsteps approached him but his eyes never opened. He knew who it was by the sweet floral scent on the light breeze. She hovered over him for a second before descending to kiss his lips. His heart fluttered and his muscles tensed with desire. She ran a single hand across his chest and stomach, the nails leaving waterless trails. He raised his hand and intertwined his fingers with her hair.

They were lost in passion when the first flash of lightning streaked across the sky followed by the low rumble of thunder. Neither the brilliant white light, nor the chest vibrating roar pulled the lovers from their embrace. They continued their exploration of body and soul while the rain made small rivers across their skin.
