The complicated nature of the situation unfolding before Gavin Kourt was evident and so he watched from two tables away. He watched the smile fade from the pretty face of a young woman passing by turn into confusion and then upon confirmation distort further into anger. He watched the oblivious man continue talking to the woman across from him, unaware of the invisible brooding storm around him on this fateful summer night. It was the simple sidelong glance of that woman’s eyes which tipped off the man to the presence of the other woman. Gavin took a sip of his coffee.
“Is this your new hussy?” The woman said as she approached the iron railings of the dinning house. It took a brief second and a glance to her husband to realize this angry woman was addressing her.
“Hussy? I am sorry. You must be mistaken. Tom an I.” She began to respond but stopped. She stared at her husband. Guilt shown in his eyes like blue beacons and his cheeks reddened with embarrassment.
“Oh. You’re married. I didn’t see a wedding ring the other night.” She was leaning over the rail now. The couple at the table directly below her leaned back in their seats in a feeble attempt to put distance between them and this irate woman. Their faces were contorted in an expression somewhere between laughter and shock. Gavin poured another splash of cream into his coffee and a teaspoon of sugar. Abruptly the angry woman turned and walked off but every patron could hear the obscenities she was spouting in the calm night. That and the click of her heals on the old cobblestone street.
Gavin listened to the couple argue. Tom was trying to persuade his wife he had never seen that woman before let alone had sex with her. The wife listened to the words and the subtle messages with the care of a bomb disposal squad. Instead of searching for the wire to defuse the situation she was hunting for the one to rip his story to shreds. It didn’t take long. Within a few minutes he was confessing his infidelities and she was requesting a divorce.
“I am positive you wont have any trouble finding a place to stay.” She left and the entertainment was over.
An hour later Gavin pulled into the circular driveway of a moderate size home. He parked, got out of the car and knocked on the front door. The door was answered by a woman who was wearing a lace black and white teddy that barely reached the top of her thighs and nothing else. A drunken smile crossed her face and her cheeks flushed rose. Gavin sighed then spoke.
“No sign of Tom I take it?”
“He wouldn’t dare come by the house tonight. He keeps calling,” She stifled a hiccup.” but I wont give him the satisfaction of me answering.” She smiled devilishly as she slurred her words. “We won. Is there anything I can do to repay you.”
“The amount we agreed on will be fine, and I will be on my way.” She attempted a seductive pouting face but Gavin just waited and smiled.
“The money is in the bedroom if you want to come inside for a minute.”
“I appreciate the offer however under the current circumstances it would be best not to make any impulsive decisions. Especially since the divorce isn’t finalized. I’ll be just fine enjoying the night breeze for the few minutes it will take you to retrieve my payment. Besides mixing pleasure and business isn’t wise.”
“Guess we will just have to wait till our business is done, then we could focus solely on the pleasure.” She took the rejection with a smile and retreated into the house.
A few moments later the door opened again. This time she was covered with a white fur robe and a matching belt tied around her waist. Her chest and legs were still partly exposed and Gavin felt a stirring to accept her offer.
“Here you are. Thanks again Mr. Kourt.” Gavin took the envelope she extended to him. He took great care in not making physical contact. He didn’t need something as simple as the touch of her soft hand to destroy his self control.
“It has been my pleasure. Remember our agreement.” Gavin returned to his car and drove away. He took a deep breath, satisfied he was able to control his urges this time. Apparently word got out about the slip ups he made with some of the other girls. He was a monster for taking advantage of the fragile and vulnerable girls. There hadn’t been many of them, and he made sure they were happy with the outcome, but none the less he should never had made those choices. His urges were stronger than his self control. He was after all human regardless of what some of his clients believed in the heat of passion.
His stomach dropped as he realized his last job was complete. He would not be taking on any more clients. He would have to find another means of obtaining his fix. It felt all to final. He felt the desire to hold soft scented flesh against his bare body rise in him. For an instant he considered turning around, driving back to the large house inhabited by a soon to be divorcee and fulfill the dreams her husband denied her. The feeling was dismissed. It was too easy. He longed for something challenging. He gazed down at the envelope and considered the contents of cash inside. His decision was made. He pulled his cell phone from his pocket and dialed.
“Hey man. Whats up?” The voice on the other end was deep and slightly out of breath.
“Hey Danny. Clubs and Spades tonight at 11.” Gavin spoke as if it was more of a command than an invitation.
“See you then.” Gavin tossed the phone into the passenger seat. He could feel the anxiety rushing through him. All he had to do now was to swing home, stash the cash in his safe located in his office and freshen up. One always had to prepare for a hunt and tonight he wasn’t about to come home empty-handed.
