Small Steps

I will be honest, the first few steps were rather difficult. I went through every room inside the house and then moved my attention to the outside of the house. The very first step in my mind was to take stock of each room from an outside perspective. What I found was somewhat promising.

What I noticed immediately was the feeling of each room. Certain rooms, even with the bit of clutter,  had more a lived-in feel than a chaotic one. I figured I could hold off on cleaning and getting around to these rooms till later. With all the demands on my time, I wanted to be efficient and address the issues which would make the most impact in the least amount of time.

There was no better place to start than where I spend most of my time, the bedroom. I first started addressing the obvious things like clothes and what was lying at the bottom of the closet. I tried to make it a point to create a home location for everything I touched. This ended up taking way longer than I expected though. To cut down on time I decided to group things together to streamline the process. I categorized things into two groups, things that had a home and those that didn’t. This still allowed me to clean things up and make a huge impact on the feel of the room but left a decent pile of things that needed to be addressed. From here though I was able to sort things out into smaller piles. Once those smaller piles were created it gave me some time to think about my next steps.

Did these groups of items need a home location created or was it time to get rid of some stuff?
